Arturo Spinelli was his name – a colonel in the Royal Italian Air Force, leader of a swarm of SM79 torpedo-bombers. Sailors used to say that when Spinelli got his sights on an Allied ship it could count its remaining life in minutes. Not for nothing was he called The Convoy-Killer.
