Summary:

Since the days of Good Queen Bess the Stanley family had been warriors. Every eldest son went to war, and when he did he took with him an ancient medallion which was the family’s most prized heirloom.

In more modern times there was the Zulu War, then the First World War, then World War Two, and in all of these terrible conflicts the medallion played a strange part. Sometimes it was lost, sometimes it was in enemy hands, but always it came back again to the Stanleys, that family of heroes.
