Summary:
Two desperate men ran crouching across the enemy airfield in Sicily. Seconds later they were aboard a Savoia bomber, a knife held against the mechanic’s throat as he explained the controls. Then the engines spluttered into action as the pair prepared to run the gauntlet of flak and fighters to fly this plane back to their base on Malta.
The men were Bob Reid and Ernie Black – the R.A.F. pilot and his observer who always ended up to their necks in trouble!
