Description
Summary:
She was a pigeon and her name was Esmeralda. She had strong wings and a brave heart – and she needed them as she fought her way through rain and storm to carry the messages that would save men’s lives.
First she was with the crew of a Sunderland flying-boat. Then she was in enemy territory, wounded and being nursed back to health by a young French boy.
And when her gallant fight was won she received the famous Dickin medal – the animals’ Victoria Cross.
