Summary:
There weren’t enough aircraft carriers to protect the Atlantic convoys from enemy reconnaissance-bombers, so the War Office came up with a new idea. Put catapults on the fore-decks of merchant ships and launch fighter aircraft from them!
It worked too, but for the Hurricane pilots it was deadly dangerous. At the end of their flight they had to bale out and come down by parachute into the sea. Sometimes they were picked up, sometimes not. It took courage to do a job like that . . .
