In 1939, when the greatest war in history began, was there any Englishman who didn’t know anything about it? Oh yes, certainly there was. Septimus Ballantyne was his name. He was an archeologist, and he hadn’t the foggiest idea about what was going on in the modern world. He was much too interested in the Egypt of three thousand years ago!
So when the fighting came to his part of the desert and people started shooting at one another and interrupting serious work, Septimus got very annoyed indeed . . .
