Summary:
Though it was 1940, Herbert Trotter, the fat and pompous mayor of Sheffingham, had do intention of getting caught up in the fighting against the Germans. But chaos was the order of the day when a publicity stunt designed to improve his popularity went sadly wrong. For Herbert found himself lost behind German lines with three companions . . . in charge of the city’s official limousine, a 3-ton truck and a 25-pounder gun.
