Before the war broke out, Jurgen Brinkmann had been a school-teacher – a good one, well liked by his classes. But he’d spoken out against the Nazis, and that had made him enemies amongst the fanatics following Hitler.
He felt honour-bound to fight for his country, though, and he saw bitter action against the Russians on the Eastern Front. But what he never expected was to find himself leading boys into battle – some even younger than the pupils he had once taught!
