When Jurgen Hines went off to help fight the war in the air in 1940, he had dreams of returning to glory to Berlin as a hero of a triumphant Germany. To begin with is seemed as if all this would come true when victory followed victory.
But then his squadron was posted east to the Russian front and he soon realised that so far he had had it easy. Every day saw him edge closer to Berlin, but it was as a demoralised survivor retreating with what was left of Hitler’s once proud forces . . .
