The craft was certainly armed – very heavily armed indeed. And definitely dangerous. For here was a monitor of the United States Navy operating in the hostile, maze-like rivers which criss-crossed Vietnam.
The crew had to be the best to battle against an enemy who could appear out of nowhere at any second. So you can imagine the problems that might endanger every man on board with the arrival of a reluctant, replacement officer who wanted to be serving on much bigger ships on the open sea . . .
