Summary:
It was a cold, dangerous task – stuck in the tail turret of a Lancaster bomber behind four machine guns, searching the sky for any sight of deadly enemy night-fighters.
That was what John Monarch did, and he had learned to cope with every kind of danger. Nothing had prepared him for the night, however, when he and another gunner were ordered to bail out . . . and their Lanc flew on to leave them drifting down into Nazi territory!
