The newspapers were full of the horrors of the First World War. The opposing forces were fighting bitterly in Europe, trenches spreading from the Swiss frontier to the coast of the English Channel.
There was also a forgotten conflict raging in the heat and heart of Africa as Germany tried to defend its colonial territories against the force sent to seize them. The bullets were just as deadly and the fighting just as fierce as one British lieutenant was finding out when an embittered enemy officer prepared to dispense jungle justice . . .
