Summary:

When he’d been a corporal, Jim Slade had fallen foul of Lieutenant Basil Spendlove and was reduced to the ranks. He worked his way up to sergeant again, only to have another run-in with the same man.

If Spendlove had had his way, Jim would have ended up as a private once more. But fate intervened and instead Jim was given a commission.

Now Lieutenant Jim Slade had his hands full fighting the Germans in North Africa and didn’t need another bust up with Spendlove – but he got it all the same!
