Nobby Clarke and Lanky Lymburn were a tough pair of regular soldiers. Simon Smythe was new to war, but he was lucky to have these two rogues help him brave his baptism of fire. It also helped that they all served in a regiment steeped in the bravery and tradition which put backbone into men.
